About Us
Planet Students’ mission is to help students to save money and connect to:
roommates, housing, tutors, and each other. Having all been financially
strained post-secondary students ourselves, we want to achieve our mission in a
way that does not cost students any money.
Planet Students is actually the second incarnation of an idea that was first
implemented in 2001 as the My Textbook Trader website. The MyTextbookTrader.org
website outgrew its infrastructure quickly, so the founders had to go back to
the drawing board to engineer a new solution to handle higher user volumes and
to broaden the service offering. Planet Students was thus born and welcomed its
first visitors in mid 2004.
Today, Planet Students provides free services to post secondary students at
every school across North America. We help students save money by providing the
means to buy and sell used textbooks, help locate housing and roommate
arrangements, give students the means to find or become tutors, give students
the means to buy and sell other items, provide forums in various topics
including homework help, and bring students savings through printable coupons.
As of October 2006, we have provided students with 29,000 used textbook
listings, 600 roommate listings, 1,100 housing listings, and 900
classified ads. Our best estimate of the amount that students have saved from
selling and buying books on Planet Students is $195,000.
Planet Students was brought to you by some very hard working folks that have
dedicated unending hours to build and run the website and company. If you want
