I think a lot of the problems I had in school all went back to grade one. Mrs Silver was a mean spirited old lady that never should have been let around children. She constantly hit (this was 1975) as well as yelled at, or berated the students. She often would storm over to a child that was sitting at his or hers desk, pick the child up by the shoulders and then slam the poor child back down into their seat. I remember one boy named David that was so scared to ask her to go to the washroom that he wet his pants right there at his desk. If I learned one thing from grade one, it was to be very careful about my own children's education. I am very aware of all that goes on within their classroom. I firmly believe that as long as they are enjoying it, they will do well in school, and do well in life.
Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind

Thomas Harke ... aka "my nemesis".
Worst teacher I ever had AND I had him twice!!! Probably didn't help that he taught absolutely terrible courses -- "Computer Logic & Discrete Mathmatics" and another fun one, "Computer Algorithms".
I've heard he's no longer at UofA, maybe those teacher reviews we had to do actually had an impact!

My Grade 10 English teacher was one of the worst....I was so traumatized I have forgotten her name. But I fainted in class during an extremely hot day -- and she had the nerve to yell at me for disrupting her class. That was after I came to 30 seconds after bashing my head on the chalkboard. I heard she was recenty fired. Ha!
